Effective Golf Tips To Help You Cure The Reverse Pivot

The reverse pivot action prevents many golfers from achieving good distance. Few believe you have to hit the ball further in order to achieve good distance. This isn’t the case here. As you make your swing it is likely you are leaving too much weight on your lead foot. There could also be an issue of weight shifting that may or may not be occurring when it should. To help you get better insight on curing reverse pivot here are some tips to help you get started.

  • Make sure you are turning or rotating correct portions of the body. The target should be in alignment with your left hip as you turn and go into your backswing. Your right leg gets turned toward your torso at the same time at top of your back swing. As you do this the majority of your body weight sits on your back leg.
  • Have the ball at center stance when you take your shot. Some suggest you take one step toward the ball to position yourself better.
  • When addressing the ball tilt your head slightly to the right to encourage your back to establish good angle. This helps you create an effective backswing.
  • Swing toward the ball and flex your right leg. As you do so your left knee cap is aimed toward the right side of the ball. Your hips should turn slightly to help achieve this. The bottom of your foot should point away from your target as you finish your swing and return to your starting position.
  • Pay attention to weight shift and when it occurs. Some players suggest having about 90 percent of your weight to shift toward the back of your leg. If you are a beginner the percentage may not be as high (closer to 50 percent). The idea is to achieve the shift at the top of your backswing. Weight also occurs when you go into your downswing.
  • Reduce the need to tilt your body as you swing. The key here is to start your pivot correctly to help you establish a smoother swing with more power. Doing so helps achieve better trajectory of the ball and improved ball flight.
  • Continue to practice and be consistent. When you keep practicing you have better chances of eliminating the reverse pivot and reducing injury risk to your back.
